October is one of my favorite months of the year because it’s time to don my favorite boots and head to the Texas State Fair! I usually go to the fair on a weekend but this year I went on a Monday and it was fabulous; the lines weren’t long for anything and the walkways weren’t packed with people.
Due to the smaller crowd, I was able to sample most of the fried foods I had hoped to, but the best thing I tried was the funnel cake ale, winner of the 2014 Big Tex Choice Awards. The craft beer, rimmed with powdered sugar, actually tasted like funnel cake! I also had some fried Sriracha balls, which are just as amazing as you could imagine, fried sweet tea, and fried pumpkin pie.
I made sure to get a picture with Big Tex, wearing a pair of cowboy boots that I picked up in Sicily a few years ago.
